The design of cooling ponds for dissipating the water heat from steam electric power plants requires the determination of the amount of surface heat loss from the sidearms. The similarly solutions for the velocity and temperature distributions in a sidearm of a cooling pond are derived. The derivations of rate of heat loss and rate of flow in the sidearm are presented. The analysis is compared with the numerical results and the agreement between the two results is found to be satisfactory.
