Abstract: A system of limit strength coefficients is described for approximate analysis of moments and shears in concrete beams and columns. The system can be applied to structures with live-to-dead-load ratios as high as 5, and it contains almost no restrictions on ratios between adjacent span lengths. With application to a broader range of structures and information on column moments, it is proposed as an alternate to Section 8.3.3 of the American Concrete Institute Building Code. The alternate system is derived to insure adequate strength and ductility to reach strength limit loads and to insure no yielding of tensile reinforcement at service load. An example building is included to illustrate an application procedure.
