Abstract: Theoretical and experimental studies leading to the design of prestressed rectangular beams containing a single transverse circular hole or an array of such holes are reported. A total of 21 beams, each subjected to third-point loading, was tested with particular attention directed to the ultimate load-carrying capacity and possible methods of strengthening such beams by additional reinforcement.
