The paper examines and verifies experimentally the collapse mode of failure of tapered beams loaded within the tip. Web tension field developed in the post-buckling range is observed and its inclination is shown to compare well with the theory. Experimental collapse loads are also shown to be in good agreement with those predicted, when the reduced plastic moment capacity of flanges are considered.
