Abstract:

A generalized stability analysis of homogeneous bank slopes is presented. Cohesion, angle of friction, soil density, slope angle, and height are taken into account. The factor of safety against failure, as calculated for a suitable failure circle by the Simplified Bishop method, is expressed in terms of a stability number. Generalized charts relating the factor of safety to the slope height are developed.
