Abstract: This note presents a summary of a simplified procedure for preliminary estimates of pile maximum curvatures during earthquake motion. More rigorous procedures may be advisable depending on the importance of the situation and the results of preliminary analyses. Other aspects of pile design, such as stresses induced by inertia of the structure, subsidence, or soil failure are equally important and should be considered.
