This note describes a nonlinear algorithm for the optimization of a water supply system consisting of a pumping station, rising main, elevated reservoir, supply main, and the distribution system. A modified Hazen-William.s formula has been used for the exact estimation of frictional head loss in pipe lines. A distribution system analysis program employing modified Newton-Raphson method has been incorporated in the main program for optimization.
