Abstract: In this note the standard equations for Lagrangian particle trajectory given by Wiegel are shown to violate the kinematics of the free surface. A perturbation technique is presented and second-order equations are developed for the deep-water case, based in part on the derivations of Dean and Eagleson and Currie and the numerical procedure of Chaplin.
