Abstract: An efficient finite element applicable to nonaxisymmetrically loaded axisymmetric elastic bodies was developed by Wilson and was later described by Zienkiewicz. This method is now widely used and was used in conjunction with an energy absorbing boundary to study the steady state lateral and rocking dynamic response of footings; it was shown that the footing response could be rocking dynamic response of footings; it was shown that the footing response could be properly represented by using only one term of the Fourier series. Therefore, use of the element is only slightly more costly than corresponding two-dimensional finite elements.
