Abstract: Cyclic loading of soils has become an important area of modern soil mechanics due to present consideration of cyclic loads induced on foundations during the occurrence of earthquakes/or ocean storms, or both. Consequently increasingly large numbers f cyclic shear tests are required to define the appropriateness of foundations designed for cyclic conditions. Versatile and sensitive laboratory test apparatus is needed to perform these cyclic shear tests.
